In 2005 the women group TUFAHAMIANE ("we understand each other") and the DTP started the project called "Plant your Palmtree" (PYP) to oppose the steadily growing cutting down of the important palm trees by planting new ones. In the tree nursery Kizimbani the women were taught in several units to provide themselves with palm seedlings, to treat, plant, raise and finally sell the palm trees. The small plantation is part of the activities coordinated by the Kumi na mbili Centre. With the "day of 1000 palm trees" the project was made popular all over the island. Initiation, spread and public relations for the "Plant your Palmtree" project are made possible through the emission payments that the DTP collects as a duty on the plane tickets for the PYP-project.
