Looking Back at My Year in Germany

My one year in Germany has been a wonderful experience, despite of its ups and downs, but I am thankful that I learned and experienced new things in a new environment. It has been my dream to get experience from other countries, especially in Europe and so I was so happy when I got the chance to come to Germany. With these pictures I just tried to explain shortly what I did and experienced, though not for the whole year.

It was at the Hamburg harbor and my first day in Germany, 17/8/2016. It felt like a dream and there I was, still trying to figure out if it was real. This year has been full of experience, good times and bad times but mostly educative and I got to know myself well as it is my first time to stay far away from home.

This was one of the beautiful moments, climbing the Alps Mountains at Schliersee during our midterm seminar. I could never imagine that one day in my life time I could make it to the Alps and so this was like a dream to me and it was an unforgettable moment.

It was a Tanzanian night in Bremen, prepared by former DTP volunteers with the help of other Tanzanians who are living there and Kenyans. We were invited and asked to prepare a presentation about Tanzania, it went so well that we didn’t expect. About 150 people were there. One thing I learned on this day is that, when presenting my country, I should present everything including development issues and not only about culture. I learned this when one of the attendance asked why don’t we also show how developed we are as other people still think we live in forestries.

I also got the chance to participate in a Green Peace event against nuclear weapons in Bremen. It was one of the good educative experiences to see how other people are engaging in trying to change the world to be a better place.

This was one of the places in the world I was wishing to visit, Paris and yes, I did it and am so happy that I made one of my dreams come true. And actually, thanks to the program which made it easier, as maybe I could have gone but not so soon. Maybe I could not have the privilege that I had during this one year.
